A French Mother Of Pearl Perfume Bottle
A finely crafted French perfume bottle made predominantly of mother of pearl.
The main body is constructed from lustrous mother of pearl panels, which give the bottle its iridescent sheen. These panels are framed with ornate gilt embellishments, which add a touch of opulence to the piece.
The central panel of the bottle features an oval medallion of moss agate.
The bottle's neck is slender, tapering gracefully to the top, where it is capped with a decorative gilt crown-like stopper. The stopper itself has the initials MAP/R suggesting that the bottle might have been custom-made for an individual.
Intricate swirls and rococo motifs in gilt further accentuate the mother of pearl's natural beauty, giving the bottle an overall sense of elegance and refinement. Given its detailed workmanship and materials used, this perfume bottle was likely a luxury item, owned by someone of high social standing during the18th century. Circa 1793. Unmarked. The fact that it's unmarked suggests it might have been crafted in a region or time when hallmarks weren't consistently applied.
